With Nwaneri Williams absent after announcing his commitment to Missouri, IMG Academy Five-Star (Fla.) David Stone is the top defensive player available in the 2024 class.
Stone has offers from 34 different programs, including Florida, Miami, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M and Alabama. However acc Adam Gorney at Rivals, The Sooners are the team to beat when it comes to Stone’s recruitment.
“Stone has six more programs to recruit, but Oklahoma is the team to beat — and more importantly for the Sooners to get some defensive support after Nwaneri left for Missouri. It would be insane now if Stone didn’t pick the Sooners on August 26.”
For what it’s worth On3’s prediction model Oklahoma is also the favorite for Stone’s involvement at 79.1%, followed by Michigan State at 15.4%, then Florida (1.6%) and Miami (1.3%).
ESPN has Stone’s best representation and has ranked him even higher than Williams for that position, making him both #1 there and #6 nationally in the Class of 2024. None of the four major recruitment services have ranked Stone lower than No. 13 nationally.
Currently, Oklahoma’s 2024 class has 19 tough assignments and ranks 16th in the national recruiting ranking.
