There was no quit in the Nanooks on Thursday night. Not at the end of regulation, not in the first overtime and not in the second OT.
And local starters Tyriq Luke of Fairbanks and Demarcus Hall-Scriven of Anchorage were in the middle of it all as each Alaskan took turns making big plays at crunch time.
In the end, Northwest Nazarene held off UAF in a 96-93 thriller at the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium. But the effort never wavered for the entire 50 minutes.
This was the third OT game for the Nanooks in their last four games. They won the first but dropped the next two.
Abdullahi Mohamed led UAF with 30 points and Jaycson Bereal Jr. added 25 while Luke and Hall-Scriven combined for 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Luke, of West Valley High fame, dropped in 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in his first start of the season. He played a season-high 37 minutes.
His 3-pointer with 62 seconds left in regulation pulled the Nanooks within 74-72 and Mohamed’s layup with 22 seconds forced OT.
In the first stanza, Luke got the party started with a jumper 16 seconds in and Hall-Scriven forced a second OT by sinking the second of two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game 85-85.
Hall-Scriven, who played his high school ball at ACS, made his sixth straight start and netted 11 points to reach double figures for the third time in four games.
In the second OT, Luke’s steal and layup forged a 91-91 tie.
In Anchorage, the Seawolves evened their record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 2-2 after beating Central Washington 75-61 Thursday at the Alaska Airlines Center.
UAA’s Dillon Barrientos had 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while Tyson Gilbert (16) and Dathan Satchell (15) also reached double digits as the team shot 52% from the floor and knocked down 11-of-25 from downtown.
Former East High standout Hasaan Herrington of Anchorage had all eight of his points in the first half, including a steal and layup that broke a 28-28 tie and put UAA ahead for good.
Anchorage’s Sloan Lentfer – last season’s Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year out of Grace Christian – pumped in five points during a 9-0 run in the second half that allowed the Seawolves to pull away and post their largest margin of victory since a 66-52 win over Adams State on Nov. 25.
